How to live a more positive life

Do you ever get into a complete slump that you can’t seem to get out of? Feel a bit useless and like the world is against you, or maybe you’ve lost your mojo and can’t get it back... Well, keep reading.

I wrote a blog post back in 2015 about how to lead a positive life, but it seems over the past few months I’ve not been taking my own advice and have let negative thoughts completely alter my mood. Like many, I started the New Year with goals, aspirations and promises to myself. However, I think we all put too much pressure on ourselves to achieve things that aren’t actually going to make us happy. Yes, I lost 8lbs from cutting out wine and snacks, but those 8lbs lost hasn’t allowed me to be any happier because I don’t actually attribute body image to happiness (and also because I bloody love wine) - so what’s the point?

Your thoughts and mindset are the only things that will allow you to truly be happy and it’s a daily thing I think we all need to work on because a tiny seed of negative doubt can grow into something vicious - but it’s always nice to remember that a small positive thought can bloom into something much better. Here are some ways I’ve been trying to tackle negative energy throughout my daily life and become a more positive person.

Reflect on the past

This is a hard one for me, because I really struggle to let go of past situations. If I’ve been hurt by someone or have a regret about something, my instant reaction is to brush it off and forget about it because I HATE dealing with emotions, so 6 months down the line the anxiety and regret kicks in and I still haven’t moved on. Reflection is key to understand how and why you’re feeling a certain way. I’ve started a little journal where I write down my thoughts, which helps lots because I can revisit and see how far I’ve come.

P.s there is no point looking back when you are only moving forward. I can guarantee that for every door that closed another much prettier door has opened and it’s that mindset that can change an outlook on a situation.

Find your go-to person

Whether it be friends, family, your partner or a pen pal (ok not a pen pal LOL), we all need someone to talk to. I know I have certain friends who I will go to about particular troubles because they’ll give me the honest advice I need. It’s important to find others who are on the same wavelength as you and can help ease your mind when needed, but also give you a kick up the bum.

Good vibes only

What you put out into the universe, you get straight back. Yes, it can be hard to completely change your mindset but when you do, things get better. I've been reading The Secret  and to be honest, at first I was apprehensive but the more I've been believing in it, the more I've been seeing a return.

We've all woken up in the morning 'on the wrong side of the bed right?' but what if before we decided we were in a bad mood, we decided we were in a good mood?! We've all overthought a situation until we go insane, but what if we decide to just let it go and what will be will be?!

Putting out the good vibes, bring the good vibes back. Whatever is happening in your life, you'll get through it and you WILL come out the other end... Trust me.
