Leading A Positive Life

Working in a creative industry is hard. You are subject to constant comparison to others and criticism from people who don’t know you or see things the way you do. I know first hand how hard it can be to stay motivated and passionate about work when you are constantly plagued by negative thoughts from yourself and those around you. It’s super difficult not to self critique when someone is constantly critiquing every move you make.

Sometimes one tiny seed of negative doubt can turn into something horrible but it’s always nice to remember that a small positive thought can bloom into something much better. Here are some ways you can try to tackle negative energy throughout your daily life and become a more positive person.

Tips to lead a positive life

FIND POSITIVE PEOPLE

Sometimes you come across people in life who demotivate you and dampen your mood 24/7. The simple solution here would be to cut them out of your life completely, but sometimes this is a luxury we don’t all have. If you are constantly surrounded by a particularly negative person e.g everyday at work, try not to let their negative thoughts cloud your mind and don’t feed their bad vibes, it’s what they want. Instead respond with nothing but kindness and they might soon learn to take a look at their own attitude.

BE KIND

This may sound simple, but if you are kind to others, they are more likely to be kind back. Don’t be put in a situation where you have ultimately annoyed someone because you ‘were in a bad mood’. Word can travel fast, especially in business and your character above all says the most about you. Wouldn’t you rather be the ‘ray of sunshine’ than the ‘girl with an attitude’?

THE PAST IS THE PAST

There are probably 100 things you regret in your life right now, but they’re already done and dusted. There is no point looking back when you are only moving forward. I can guarantee that for every door that closed another one opened and it’s that mindset that can change an outlook on a situation.  It certainly has mine.

FIND THE LESSON

Ah mistakes, my favourite things. Sometimes I feel like I spend a lifetime making them but there is a lesson to be learned from every situation, no matter how bad it may seem at the time. However, this is not an excuse to be a bad person and then blame everything on a 'mistake'. Never make the same one twice and learn what to do better next time. George Bernard Shaw infamously said:

“A lifetime spent making mistakes is not only more honourable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.”

BE YOURSELF

This is my number one rule. People won’t always like you and that’s just the way it is. Don’t try to put on an act to get people to like you, this will probably drive you insane and you will more than likely learn to hate your real self.

YOU ARE NOT A VICTIM

Yes, some people seem to get given everything on a plate. But I ensure you that 99% of the time they have worked for it. Instead of complaining about how ‘lucky’ other people are, go out and get what you want. Be proactive, tackle your ‘to do’ list and no matter what, always dress up and show up and remember that there is someone out there who has it worse than you.

All these things can help to change your daily attitude on your path to a more positive life! They have certainly helped me along the way.

How do you guys try to remain positive?
